RUPs Require Current Certification

Certification checkmark
Current pesticide applicator certification is required to handle any restricted use pesticides (RUPs). Now is the time to “make sure your license is not expired” (in Minnesota, they often expire on March 1), said Anna Blazek, Federated ag sales rep in Rush City.

Federated must have proof of your current certification on file before any RUPs are released to you or delivered to your farm. Blazek recommended giving your current license number to your ag sales rep as soon as possible.
Blazek highlighted the requirements for obtaining certification in Minnesota:
  • You must be farming land that is owned, rented, or managed by you or family.
  • You must pass the application and certification requirements.
    • Training materials are available through the University of Minnesota Extension.
  • You must complete and pass the exam online (or you can complete a hard-copy exam and mail it in).

The process for Wisconsin growers is similar; information on those requirements is available here.
