MAXIMIZE FALL FERTILIZER WITH THE SST APP

As harvest gets underway, fall fertilizer plans should also take shape because “fall is the best time to apply P and K,” said Craig Peterson, Federated agronomist at the Ogilvie location. “It’s pretty important to get [those nutrients] worked into the soil,” he added.

Following soon after the combine with fertilizer and tillage gets nutrients where they should be – and it saves times in the spring, too.

Fall is also the best time to put down lime. Peterson said, “Get in and preplan [with your Federated Agronomist] so you can go in as soon as the crop comes off.”

Of course, soil samples are the key to proper nutrient management.

The SST app (see related article) makes it possible for growers to immediately get soil sample results, know what was tested and where (using GPS locators), and then, using the app, review recommendations and make immediate decisions.

Federated Agronomists make recommendations based on soil tests and crop removal rates – and grower-determined yield goals. Of course, “it’s important to replenish nutrients,” said Peterson.

The SST app allows for two-way data exchange: from Federated Agronomists to growers and vice versa. It’s an efficient means of communication.
