Last Chance for Yield Boost This Season
Jul 09, 2025

As corn begins to tassel in several of Federated’s service areas, your last chance to further boost yields lies in a fungicide application with a strong adjuvant package.
Many growers this season face challenges from tar spot on corn, but a fungicide application can additionally improve the overall health of the plant even when disease is not part of the equation. Winfield United’s Answer Plots® repeatedly demonstrate the value of fungicides in boosting yields (see chart).
Kevin Carlson, Federated’s agronomy sales manager, summarized the data from Winfield: “The long-term average for crop response is about 14 bu./ac.”
Coupling the fungicide with MasterLock adjuvants can improve performance even more. Then, too, a nutrient component can be applied simultaneously. “This is a limited opportunity for nutrients,” said Carlson, but micronutrients applied at this point in the season “can be an added benefit.”
Winfield United developed a calculator to determine return on investment (ROI) with fungicides. Your Federated Agronomist uses this ROI calculator to pair the strong data from Answer Plots with your unique farming situation to determine the value of an investment in a fungicide with MasterLock adjuvants.
The bottom line is this: You can protect your yields one last time in corn, at tassel, with a fungicide and nutrient application. Talk to your Federated Agronomist soon to determine your options with the ROI calculator.
Note: Thanks to new lift kits on Federated’s John Deere sprayers, late-season applications are possible – even when the corn is at tassel height.
