The Fungicide Window is Open

The Summer Solstice is past and that means the window for applying white mold fungicides is open – but not for long.
A two-pass application is the “best management plan in high-risk situations,” said Matt Kurtz, location manager at the Federated Rush City location. (High risk = white mold in field previously, high plant populations, tighter row spacing, early canopy.) For these highly problematic cases, the first application should be at R1 (beginning of flowering, which is now) and at R3 (beginning of pod set).
For moderate white mold pressure, fungicide applications have a slightly different window: between R1 and R2 (full flower).
For proven results, Federated recommends Miravis Neo (see related article) at the full recommended rate, with 15-20 gal./ac. of water and flat fan tips.
“The goal is to cover as much of the plant as possible while still getting into the canopy to reach the lower leaves and flower, where the most common infection points occur,” said Kurtz.
