Soybean Traits in the Pipeline

“Bayer® has been working on getting a new trait stack in soybeans to market,” said Kevin Carlson, Federated’s agronomy sales manager. “The fourth generation HT4 soybeans are a five-way trait stack” that can be sprayed with any of five different chemistries: glyphosate, glufosinate, dicamba, 2,4-D, and quizalofop.
Why do these additional traits matter? Because they provide more options for post-emerge weed control in soybeans, for those hard-to-control weeds. They also provide additional tank mix options.
These beans are projected to be in plots in 2026 and available to growers across the U.S. for the 2027 growing season.
“The 2,4-D trait,” said Carlson, “is Bayer’s own trait, not an Enlist® E3 trait.” (More to come on that topic in future discussions.)
Carlson noted that these soybeans with their five-way trait stack may also be tolerant to mesotrione, but that application is currently only for pre-emerge situations, not post-emerge applications.
