Got Waterhemp? Get on it ASAP.

Waterhemp is a problem no matter where you go in Federated’s service areas. “It’s wreaking havoc in both corn and soybeans,” according to Rod Gustafson, Federated’s Albertville location manager.

A two-pass program is the best way to obtain season-long control, Gustafson noted, but the window for pre-emerge applications is closing fast!

A pre-emerge application, or an application that is incorporated, will get at waterhemp early on, but a well-timed post-emerge herbicide with residual action can be effective as the season progresses.

“You have to apply a residual product,” Gustafson noted. “You can’t just do a burndown,” he said. There will be multiple flushes of waterhemp, and it will keep germinating, even in August.

A Liberty® herbicide product is a good choice with Enlist® beans, according to Gustafson. Another option for post-emerge applications on soybeans is Sequence® (from Syngenta) or Enversa™ (from Corteva) with Enlist One®.

If your fields have waterhemp, get on it soon, and talk to your Federated Agronomist to determine your best product options and timing of applications.
