Get Down With the High Boys Today

Jun 09, 2026

High-clearance sprayers for tassel application.

When tractors and other “normal”  sprayers can’t make it through the tall fields, we call in one of the “high boys.” Our two lifted John Deere sprayers are built for tassel application, which makes them perfect weapons in the fight against tar spot.

But you need to schedule them now, because demand will be as high as their giant wheels.

“Our two high-clearance sprayers are located in our Osceola and Ogilvy locations, but they can go anywhere that we service,” said  Kevin Carlson, Federated’s agronomy sales manager. “But you have to let us know well ahead of time. Demand is growing.”

Tar spot is here to stay, and the best way to fight it is during tassel. Federated has seen great success after the High Boys have been put to work.

“Our responses with both the premium and generic fungicides applied with the high-clearance applicators were very positive. Both performed well,” Carlson said. “If you haven’t tried tassel application of fungicide, we recommend that you consider it. Try a single field or a side-by-side if you want to compare results.”

But whether you’re spraying your entire acreage or just testing it out, it’s important to schedule today. Give your Federated Agronomist a call so we can be sure to get you on the schedule.
