Don’t Put Off Your Post-Emerge Plan

It’s never too early to plan for post-emergence, and Daniel Klinke, Federated sales agronomist at our Osceola location, has a few options for you to consider.

“Our two main post-emerge corn herbicides are Halex®GT and Acuron®GT,” Klinke said. “While both are great options, the main difference between the two is AcuronGT includes Bicyclopyrone for better broadleaf control and residual.” Both Halex and Acuron include Dual II Magnum®,  which is a powerful residual chemical, and Roundup®, which has some control on grasses and small weeds.

“If you are fighting thistles or ragweed, we can add Stinger® for better control,” Klinke said, “but we have to be mindful about timing and crop rotation after.”

Another important post-emergence product is Atrazine, which is added to most corn herbicide plans. “It can be applied to corn up to 12”, so don’t wait too long to get a plan together,” Klinke said.

Remember, all chemicals work better when weeds are small (shorter than 3” is ideal). “You will not be getting more bang for your buck if you wait for the weeds to come up to spray,” Klinke said.

When planning for post-emergence, be sure to choose the right adjuvant with the chemicals you plan to use to minimize crop injury.
