CROP MANAGEMENT CONTINUES THROUGH HARVEST

With soybeans wet from recent snow, propane dryers will be firing up to dry the beans. Corn, however, “is really dry; it is standing well [at this point], but it has been dead a long time,” said Kevin Carlson, Federated’s agronomy sales manager.
Growers have switched to harvesting corn – thanks to the weather – and they are seeing moisture content of 16-18% and “nice test weights of “57-60 lb./bu.,” said Carlson.
Carlson anticipates that though the soybeans “sucked up the moisture” from the heavy wet snow last week, there shouldn't be much effect on yields. That being said, it will be important to get the beans off the fields as soon as field conditions allow.
Crop prices have rallied this fall, "which we really needed," said Carlson. And, even in the busy harvest season, "don't forget about making marketing decisions during the rally."
