“The best pricing for seed is always early in the year,” said Cody Lezer, Federated’s Ogilvie location. manager. The “year” for seed is already underway.

Federated gives the best seed discounts now, “as we have more availability in the hybrids we sell,” said Lezer. The new hybrids and varieties that yielded well in plots and trials will be in tight supply as winter progresses.

Talk to your Federated Agronomist soon to lock in seed orders and secure the seed that suits your farming operation best.

As for fertilizer, some products are already in tight supply, and with “mother nature being unpredictable – as far as the river being open on time [in the spring] – it’s important to get your fertilizer locked in,” said Lezer.

“If you prepay with Federated,” he added, “we go and get it.” Your fertilizer will be “in [Federated’s] building” when you need it come spring planting time.

And, with fertilizer prices being “highly volatile,” it’s beneficial most years to get prices locked in early, Lezer noted. Demand typically drives up prices in the spring.

Bottom line: Seed and fertilizer availability is best now. Get your prepay/prebuy orders in soon. Your Federated Agronomist is ready to assist with recommendations.
