Planting Genuity Corn Traits Made Easier
By: Kevin Carlson, Certified Professional Agronomist, Federated Coops, Inc.
Planting Genuity VT Double Pro (GENVT2P) corn just got easier! Monsanto was recently approved for refuge in a bag (RIB) for their GENVT2P event by the EPA for the 2012 season. This event offers two above ground proteins for protection against European corn borer, corn earworm, and fall armyworm with only a 5 % refuge requirement which is blended in the bag and ready to plant. No need to plant a separate refuge! For our customers who do not need rootworm protection, GENVT2P with RIB will make planting more convenient and faster than ever, just dump in the planter and go to the field saving you precious time.
For the 2012 planting season, not all GENVT2P hybrids will be RIB. Please see your local Federated Agronomy Sales Specialist near you for more information on hybrids and availability for 2012 planting.

Weekly Agronomy Update
By: Kevin Carlson, Certified Professional Agronomist, Federated Coops, Inc.Federated Coops, Inc. corn and soybean plots are now called Discovery Plots. The agronomy sales staff will be showcasing our seed lines along with the newest traits at our Discovery Plots. Some of the latest traits offer protection against corn earworm damage. Syngenta's trait is called Viptera, and Monsanto's trait is called VT2Pro and VT3Pro with this insect protection. At Federated's Discovery Plot in Rush City, we have been monitoring corn earworm with an insect trap to determine what the insect pressure is in the area. We have been capturing over two male moth corn earworms per day so we know that there is signifacant pressure of this insect in the area. For more information, please come to the Discovery Plot days or talk to your local Federated Coops sales agronomist.

Weekly Agronomy Update
By: Kevin Carlson, Certified Professional Agronomist, Federated Coops, Inc.The crops around the area look good but there are some concerns in the soybeans right now. Brown Spot in soybeans is widespread around the trade area and is spreading in the canopy of the soybean crop. The weather conditions are favoring the development of this fungal disease. Treatment with a fungicide would be recommended at this time, especially with the stage of the crop (R-2) and the price soybeans are trading at today. Soybean aphids are also a concern. We have found some fields needing treatment for high aphid infestations. They are not a problem in every field at this time but we have found some fields with more than 250 aphids per plant and needing treatment. Please contact your local Federated Agronomy Center for more information.
